Men's facial and de-tan in Vattiyoorkavu, Trivandrum
Skin services sit alongside the chairs rather than in a separate wing, so a facial or a de-tan can be added to a haircut in the same visit. Most people book these before a wedding, an interview or a trip home, which is exactly what they are good for.

What to ask for
- Clean up versus facial
- A clean up is the short one: cleanse, scrub, steam and clearing out what the steam has loosened. A facial adds massage and a mask on top of that and takes considerably longer. If you have half an hour and a face that has been under a helmet, the clean up is the one you want.
- De-tan
- Aimed at the darkening that sun leaves on the parts of you that are never covered, so it is usually the face, the neck, the ears and the forearms. Say how far down you want it taken, because a face that has been de-tanned and a neck that has not is the one result nobody wants.
- Face scrub
- Physical exfoliation on its own, without the rest of a clean up. Reasonable as a quick tidy up, and worth skipping entirely if your skin is already sore or broken out. Say so rather than sitting through it.
- Threading
- Cotton thread rather than wax. For men it is normally the eyebrows, between them, or the ears. Ask for it to be kept light if you have not had it done before, since it is easier to take more off next time than to wait for it to grow back.
- Ordering it with a shave
- If you want a shave and a facial in the same visit, say so at the start. The order matters, and it is the barber who should set it rather than you finding out afterwards.
Questions we get asked
- When should I book a facial before a wedding?
- Two to three days before, not the morning of. Skin needs a little time to settle after a clean up or de-tan, and the difference shows in photographs.
- What is the difference between a clean up and a facial?
- A clean up is cleanse, scrub, steam and extraction, and it is the shorter of the two. A facial adds massage and a mask and takes longer. Both are on the menu here.
- Do I need an appointment?
- No. Skin services are walk-in like everything else, though a facial takes longer than a haircut, so a weekday afternoon is the easier time to get one done without waiting.

- Vattiyoorkavu, in Thiruvananthapuram, at TC 36/1053-4, Bindu’s Arcade, 695013.
