Kids' haircuts in Vattiyoorkavu, Trivandrum

Cutting a child’s hair is a different job from cutting an adult’s and everyone here knows it. Parents mention it in the reviews more often than almost anything else, which is usually a sign that the barber waited rather than rushed. Bring them in at a quiet hour if it is a first haircut.

What we do

  • First haircuts
  • School cuts
  • Fades and styled cuts for older children

Bringing a child in

A first haircut
Come at a quiet hour, and let them watch somebody else be cut before it is their turn. A child who has seen the clipper switched on next to somebody calm is a different proposition from one who meets it for the first time in the mirror. Weekday afternoons are the quietest here.
What to tell them beforehand
That it does not hurt, that the buzzing is loud, and that they need to keep their head still when they are asked to. Surprises are what upset children in a barber’s chair, not scissors.
A school cut
Short enough to last the term and tidy enough to pass inspection. Say how long you want it to last as well as how short you want it now, because those are two different instructions.
Older children
Fades, tapers and line work are all done here, and by the age they are asking for a specific style they should be the one describing it. Let them. It goes better, and it is their head.
If it goes wrong
A child who will not sit still can be stopped part way and finished another day, and nobody here will pretend that is unusual. It is better than holding a screaming toddler down for a neat finish.

Questions we get asked

What is the best time to bring a child?
A weekday afternoon. The shop is quietest then, the wait is shortest, and a calm room makes a first haircut far easier on everyone.
Do you cut hair for toddlers?
Yes. First haircuts are done here and have been for years. Kids friendly is the single most common topic Google pulls out of this shop’s reviews.
Can I sit with my child during the cut?
Yes, and for a small child it usually helps. Say when you come in that it is a first haircut so the barber knows what he is starting.
Where is the shop?
